For the love of
the Game
This section of the website is dedicated to talking about challenges I perform in Video Games, as well as detailing completionist runs and things of the like.
52 in 52 - The Results
This is the third of three updates in the 52 in 52 challenge, meaning we have reached the end of the challenge I set myself at the start of 2024.
Platinum induced Brain rot (Side Quest #4)
The other evening I was looking over my notes for 52 in 52 and my estimated projection for where it might end. In short, I was going to miss the mark. Now the following two days I was on ‘Late Late shifts’ as they are later than the lates. These shifts are 12:30-21:00 and by the time I get home and eat it’s around 10. Doesn’t give much time to play but I try to fit some short sessions of longer games or short games. I was doing extra time in the morning on one of these days so I knew I would be extra tired. Looking through my potential options, I stumbled upon A Light in the Darkness in my PS Library (Both literally and figuratively). It was a game I saw on the store that was free, and had a platinum upon research otherwise I might not have bothered.
52 in 52 - Second Update
This is the second checkpoint of 52 in 52, coming in at the end of Week 35. The next and final part will of course be at the end of Week 52.
52 in 52 – First Update
This is the first checkpoint of 52 in 52, coming in at the end of Week 18. The next will be at the end of Week 35 (17 weeks time) and the last part will of course be at the end of Week 52.
Puzzle Games are weird (Side Quest #3)
At the start of April, I found myself playing a fair few puzzle games. Not by design, it just kind of happened that way. It also happens that each of these games were different kind of puzzles. The main takeaway I got from these experiences is that puzzle games are weird, and must be incredibly difficult to make.
Chosen Undead for Hire (Side Quest #2)
Recently Jade returned to her Dark Souls playthrough after a 7/8 year hiatus, beating the remaining lords …
The ones that got away - April 2024
Thankfully there wasn’t one of these in March, but the hot streak of one month had to end with some games that didn’t quite make the mark this time.
Introducing “52 in 52”
This is a challenge where I must get 52 Platinum trophies in 52 weeks of a year. I told myself it would start the moment I got my 100th platinum, which just happened to be 31/12/2023, so for convenience sake (and the fact I was working NYE so wasn’t playing anything). The challenge starts 1/1/24 and ends 31/12/2024. My previous record for Platinum’s in a year was 31 in 2023, so I look forward to trying to beat that.
The Platinum Road: Highlights from First 100
When it comes to games, I'm somewhat of a completionist. If I enjoy the game, I'm gonna try my best to get the Platinum Trophy. It's become more of an interest as I've got older and have more skill to get the trophies, but it's all paid off as I've reached the milestone of 100
Trying my hand at Profit and Democracy (Side Quest #1)
The stars did align and we thought to make the most of it, trying two hit titles. In Space, it’s always an extreme.
Designing: a new ‘Suicide Squad’ Game
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has released and proven to be a fairly middling experience. There are sparks of greatness in there, but just not enough. The idea of a Suicide Squad game is tenable, it just needs better direction. Here’s how I would go about making a squad game.
The ones that got away – February 2024
Looks like this series is here to stay. Of the four games I played in February, 3 of them are on this list in some capacity or another. It’s not entirely the games faults, as there’s external factors like a boat load of work to take into account.
The ones that got away - January 2024
My new compromise is this series, where once a month I talk a little bit about the games I played but ultimately didn’t vibe with.
