The ones that got away – February 2024
Looks like this series is here to stay. Of the four games I played in February, 3 of them are on this list in some capacity or another. It’s not entirely the games faults, as there’s external factors like a boat load of work to take into account. Regardless…
First up was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – a game I technically completed. However KTJL is a live service game, so whatever campaign is present is merely a precursor, a taster of things to come in the following content seasons. I put about half a dozen hours into the Post game and more than my fill of things. Not sure I’ll be coming back for the future content drops.
From the steam charts and general online consensus, nobody else really seems to care about the game either. If it manages to make it to the end of its current content plan – Mrs Freeze, Lawless and Deathstroke – I’ll be amazed.
After that was Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, a victim of my busy schedule this month. I was enjoying the game, albeit with some caveats. Real world matters took me away from the game for about a week and once that had passed, I had no real interest to return. Something just didn’t click again. I’ll probably try again in a years time.
I’ll not talk too much about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as this is one I’m conflicted on. The move to a more generic open world is a shame, but I didn’t have time to solidify my feelings one way or another as when I died to the first major boss, I reloaded last checkpoint rather than last battle, it seems to have reverted back a good 2/3 hours worth of exploring. Whenever this happens in any game, I just have to put it down for a while. Same thing happened with Dead Island 2. Who knows when I’ll get back to this, which is a shame.
So what did I actually play this month, besides KTJL? Well I prepared a DLC Character for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree – took roughly 30 hours for 164 bosses (All but the final boss). Notable for this playthrough – I beat the Godskin Duo and Malenia, Goddess of Rot solo for the first time, so that’s nice.
