Super Mario Shower Gel Set Review
Been a while since I wrote a review on anything, but after seeing the Super Mario shower gel set on sale in B&M’s, I couldn’t help but buy it and try it out. The cute design caught my eye initially with it having a yellow and blue box, with the Super Mario logo on it and a selection of 4 showers gels, each with their own character and their symbols above them, which include Mario with his iconic red M, Luigi and his green L, Princess Peach and her crown and toad with a picture of a Toad face.
After picking up the box to have a proper look at it, I was curious what each character would smell like, as there was no indication on the box and each character had their own colour of shower gel (Mario red, Luigi green, Peach pink and Toad Blue). Upon getting it home though to try it out, my high hopes for the shower gels decreased rapidly, as soon as I opened them.
As usual with shower gels based on video games, they are there for the gimmick and not the quality of the product. The shower gels are slightly runnier than other shower gels (it does clean you, so it does the job) and the scent doesn’t really linger when they are used, which is probably for the best, consider some of the scents weren’t that pleasant. Each character’s scent was as follows:
Mario- Generic cheap masculine deodorant. The sort you would smell when you were in high school
Luigi-Initial smell is minty, but mixed in with the cheap deodorant smell, although it isn’t as strong
Peach-Extremely artificial smelling peach, like the smell of a cleaning product but not as chemically
Toad-General berry scent or in all honestly it smells “blue”
I’m a little confused by the scents as I was hoping they would all be fruitier smelling or more unisex orientated, but the inclusion of straight up cheap masculine scent, gives me the vibe these are meant to be bought for the more masculine gamer, rather than the feminine (not saying feminine people can’t use this, but as a female, it is defo not my cup of tea).
If I had to put the smells into a ranking, I would go Toad first, Luigi second, Peach third and Mario last, but in all honesty, I would only use the Toad one if I had to.
These sets are obviously meant to be bought for children as a little gift, because of the use of the Super Mario characters and the bright, fun colours of the shower gel, however, do take into consideration the scents featured in the set and if they would appeal to the person, you are buying them for, for example if they are fine with masculine scents, then it will be perfect for them whereas for me personally, the only one that appealed to me was the Toad one.
If you did want to get the set at the minute, it is currently £3 down from £5 in B&M and it would make a cheap, little present for someone, if they don’t mind the scents in the set.
