‘Space Invaders Gamer Gummies’ Review
Hey, remember that hit game from 1978 where you played as a moveable lasercannon and need to fight off waves off aliens? Neither do I, because I wasn’t born yet, but I do remember playing the 1999 game on the PlayStation 1 which basically has the same narrative as the original, which is to fight off waves of alien invaders. I have fond memories off playing this game in the past and I still enjoy playing space invaders today, so my eyes lit up when I saw these gamer gummies when on holiday in Rhodes, especially since they are officially licence by Taito for a company called Powerbears, which seem to make gummies for Pac-Man and Tetris.
The gummies feature 6 flavours and 6 shapes, but the shapes don’t have a specific flavour to them. Flavours included are:
Blackberry
Kiwi Lime
Plum
Orange
Pomegranate
Pineapple
The flavours in the packet were made with natural flavourings and contained 20% juice, which probably explains why Orange and Kiwi Lime had the strongest flavours, followed by Pineapple and Blackberry. The Plum and Pomegranate jellies were very weak tasting and hard to tell apart, but these flavours don’t tend to have strong flavours naturally (looking at the website though, I am not entirely convinced we got every flavour, but we still enjoyed them nonetheless).
The texture of the gummies was chewy but not too hard and I originally thought the gummies were vegan, due to the packaging saying it contained no pork, but it turned out they contained beef gelatin which I think made the jelly have a softer chew to normal jellies made with pork gelatin. The gummies were also free from preservatives, gluten and lactose free and contains 38% of your vitamin C and 42% of your vitamin E, so it was nice to the company try and cover some allergens and add some health benefits to its gummies.
The actual design of the jellies was impressive with there being small dots in the design where there should be and a very solid outline, so you could tell every gummy apart. The shapes included in the pack were:
The laser cannon AIT-50
The mystery UFO
Small invader (Squid)
Medium invader (Crab)
Large invader (Octopus)
The Barrier
My favourite gummy shape would either be the UFO or the Crab, as they are the most iconic space invader characters. As mentioned, they were all made with a high amount of detail, however the Barrier did give me a laugh, as I didn’t know the design featured in the packet and it was just a plain intact barrier design.
Overall, I really enjoyed these gummies and the only 2 downsides to these gummies are, it does not look like you can buy these in the UK, since Powerbears are based in Germany. The other downside is we only got 12 gummies in a packet, which isn’t a lot considering we bought these for around 2€. I still think these gummies are worth buying if you can get your hands on some, especially because of the novelty of them. I would absolutely buy these again, or even the Pac-Man or Tetris ones as a little treat to have during a gaming session.
