‘Willy’s Wonderland - The Game’ Review
Developer: Mito Games | Platform: PS5 | Playtime: 0:40 | Platinum: 0:45
Releasing three years after the incredibly fun and stupid movie of the same name, here we have Willy’s Wonderland - The Game - a 2.5D brawler set during the events of the movie. I can’t mince words here, this game is pretty damn awful.
Now I’m not a big fan of beat-em-ups and I’ll admit that I’m not terribly knowledgeable on them either but this game seemed woefully basic. Set over nine stages, each split into two halves, the second having the boss fight. The enemies start of okay, zombie staff members but then devolve into Hacker girls with electric force fields and stuff??The game has no weapon pickups or powerups, only health to be collected from crates. The levels change visually but feature no set pieces and are probably the same length as each other. There is one song in the game, it’s a good song but it plays for every single level.
You can choose from two characters, the Janitor or Liv from the movie. The pair play exactly the same, down to their three hit combo, strong attack quick, dash manoeuvre and rechargeable spin attack that just wins any fight. When hitting enemies, a F.U.N meter fills, allowing the player to heal, go into a sort of rage mode or some other third thing I’ve forgotten about already.
For £4, it was an easy Platinum and a funny way to round out the night after watching the movie but I do have to wonder why this game even exists. I suppose Five Nights at Freddy’s had a brawler spinoff and a brawler made more thematic sense than a FNAF clone. That being said, the movie came out three years ago. Who was this for? Who was this for.
