‘I Love You Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator’ Review

KFC over the years have brought out a variety of products as a form of promotion such as a saucy novella, a chicken scented sunscreen and even a gaming console with an in-built chicken warmer. Nothing intrigued me more though, then the idea of being able to date Colonel Sanders himself in this visual novel dating sim. Delicious spoilers ahead for this finger lickin good game, so proceed with caution and with your sporks at the ready.

This game has only a small cast of people in it which features Miriam (best friend), Aeshleigh (arch enemy), Van Van the Man Man (Aeshleigh boyfriend), Sprinkles/ Professor Dog (the goodest of doggo’s and your teacher), Clank (Robot student), Student (Student with no name) and Harland Colonel himself (the love interest). Special shout out to the various Spork Monsters as well which you may or may not meet depending on how you play the game.

The game’s story has the main character going through 3 extensive days of culinary school at the University of Cooking School: Academy of Learning. Throughout the 3 days, the main events that happen are, helping Miriam with her problems and progressing through school together so you both graduate. You will also need to get the Colonels attention through both your cooking and love interactions (to get the positive ending), while taking on Aeshleigh and Van Van in various encounters and fighting Aeshleigh off when she tries to steal the Colonel’s attention. There are also a few chances in the game where you achieve game overs, with my favourite being offering Sprinkles a beef treat where he immediately kicks you out of the school for trying to give him a heart attack.

At the end of the 3 days, you will get 1 of 3 endings which I manage to get by playing the game multiple times. The endings are (in the order I got them) I won Colonel Sanders heart, but he rejected my cooking skills. The next ending, I won his heart, he accepted my cooking skills and made me his business partner and as a bonus, I got the option to adopt the Spork Monster which I obviously did, cos how can you resist his Sporks? Finally, I got the ending where I received a coupon for a complimentary side and soda upgrade which is better than nothing, I guess.

As a basic bit of promotion for KFC, I love you Colonel Sanders isn’t that bad. The art style is anime based, with mainly still images but with some moving effects such as cherry blossom leaves falling, which is a nice touch, however having the still images of the characters blink at you is extremely creepy.

The dialogue is cringey yet funny, but it is to be expected for a silly little love game and it is a little game, with my playtime being a couple of hours, which would be even less if you just wanted to do the one playthrough.

Overall, if you want to play a visual novel with a funny cringey twist and you happen to love KFC, this is defo the game for you. I do in all seriously recommend you play it once, just to experience how cringey it is (also just to see the cute sporks monsters in it).
