Welcome to CraigPlaysGames
Hello, my name is Craig, and I’ve been playing Video Games for at least 20 years. I’ve also been writing about them for roughly N years on a website before this, called TheNerdRock. TheNerdRock existed as a compromise for my ambitions of doing YouTube/video based content – the technical side of things was always out of my grasp, but writing I could do.
So I wrote on TheNerdRock, fairly consistently until about a year ago, maybe longer. I started to become unhappy with what I was writing. My shtick was to write smaller reviews I played and compile them into a monthly article, a fine idea but it created unnecessary deadlines, ones I got stressed about. The more stressed I got, the messier and rushed the reviews became. I would leave the reviews to the last minute and not even remember half the details I was meant to talk about. Beyond that, I stopped writing the extra articles I liked to do – the rankings, opinion pieces, more creative projects. Everything fell to the wayside for the monthly reviews I was no longer enjoying.
I decided I needed to change, I needed a fresh platform, a new website. With a name as simple and to the point as CraigPlaysGames, this new website was born. I jumped ship from Wordpress to here on Squarespace to give myself a real feeling of new start. I’ve not gone all scorched earth, the old website will exist for as long as Wordpress decides to host inactive sites. I’ll even link it at the bottom of this blog post.
Whether or not I believe in the ‘New Year, New me’ rhetoric really just depends on which way the wind is blowing at the turn of midnight, and while it would have been poetic to get the site published on the 1st January, I think it’s more in line to publish the site today (Future Craig editors note, while this article did go out on the 2nd, the website technically wasn’t public until the 11th), reflective of my new approach to writing for websites.
I love games, and I love talking about them. Now however, I’m going to write about them when I deem so. I’ll not review every game I play but I’ll review a lot of them. A lack of schedule does not mean a lack of content, and I hope this new site will motivate me to talk about and express the many opinions I have on many facets of the games industry.
Perhaps most importantly of all, I’m not alone this time. I have the emotional, motivational support of my beloved partner Jade, who will also be contributing to the website. Together, we hope to write things worth reading, or at the very least, something you’ll enjoy.
See you on the site!
Craig
