2025 for CraigPlaysGames
Hello and welcome, or hopefully welcome back. Regardless the start of the year seems as good a time as any to lay out plans for the future of this website. My new year’s resolution is to not be too hard on myself when I don’t meet my goals so this list is more of an outline rather than a strict roadmap of things to come.
Redesign and Restructure
This is what I’m refusing to put a timescale on but hopefully by years end the website looks a little bit more spruced up visually. By that I mean the links at the bottom of each page are actually present. I also intend to tidy up the graphics, maybe even commission a logo for the website that is more than black text on a purple background. The current game played section on the home page could do with some updating too, even if it just means I actually keep on top of it.
As for restructuring, I did play around with the idea of adding drop downs to the menus for more specific searching but I’m not convinced it’s going to work for the website. This means that reviews will continue to be for games that came out in the current year and retrospectives being anything prior to the current year but that is subject to change.
The big change in the restructuring is that Side Quest, the main feature type in For the Love of the Game is going to be moved to its own category, alongside Reviews, Retrospectives and the like. This means I can give them more attention while freeing up For the Love of the Game for other types of article that I’ve been meaning to work on.
Looking backwards and Forwards
If you saw the article on my most anticipated articles for this year then ou know I have a whole lot of ground to cover in terms of reviews. I intend to get to most of them, if not all within the 12 months but that must also be balanced out by the ever looming back catalogue. Lone entries and entire franchises wait in the wings. I’ve already started ‘Summer to Summer of Sonic’ which is ongoing until roughly August time. I was considering doing the same for Kirby even though that’s an even bigger fish than Sonic to cover. I’m thinking my focuses this year are the Ace Attorney franchise – 9 games over 4 collections as well as alternating between the two Mario RPG series – Paper and & Luigi. There’s 6 in the former and 6 + 2 minis in the latter. Of course that’s alongside everything else I play and whichever franchises I otherwise catch up on.
New Platforms enter the fray
As we move in to 2025, I don’t want to limit myself in the reviews I write so by extension the games I play. It’s not been by design before now that I only got around to PS4/5, Switch and PC this year but PS3 and Wii/U were always on the table. Specifically for 2025 (and beyond), I’m looking to add more PSVR2 titles as well mobile games and even the Playdate that I’ve owned for the best part of a year and a half or something and just not used. Lot of content coming to the site that’s for sure.
Finally, The Diamonds
Something I’ve wanted to do for years, so stretching back to the old site, is a sort of extra awards (show) article where I can shine a light on all of the games I played in the year, not just the newer ones, highlighting which has the best OST or level design or character design and the like. 2025 is the year it truly happens. It’ll be the end of 2025 naturally but I’m going to be taking notes all year so it should hopefully feel well informed.
That should be a decent taste of things to come on the site, in addition to more of the stuff that I already do. This is the last of the end of year/start of year like articles, we’re back to your regularly scheduled and newly scheduled content!
